It uses an internal gps, but uses (optional) a gsm signal to quickly aquire the lock on.

I installed Garmin XT (50. 00. 30 version) on my Nokia 5800, but it’s very very slow.
Is there another version or navigator rhat work in this mobile?

nokia maps comes pre installed in the phone and its free – but you may have to contact your network provider and ask him for info on costs

you have to buy or download illegally.
after that just install it to your micro SD card

I have just figured out how to get garmin xt to work with the us version of nokia 5800! someone sent me a file called virtualkey. sis and custom2. keymap and I installed it on my memory card and did a few other things and you actually have to hold the phone to the side and use the green and red button to navigate if someone is really interested i’ll post what all I did.

I have heard that there are problems with the North american version of the phone.

This is basically a Garmin GpS software.
You pay for the software and you most often pay for the map (europe, usa, canada) and such.
The voice and turn by turn navigation is all included and there are never subscriptions.
You could use the included nokia Maps with the gps system in the phone.
