Nice unit and seems to be pretty much bullet proof.
You get an over all map of the US but only general map with only major highways. It looks as if any map you might wish in more detail will have to be purchased, I guess I am too used to my Roadmate 760, which has really spoiled me as far as what you get with the unit.
The user interface is easy to use, however trying to connect to a computer is far from simple.
In a few words, “Very dissappointing!”
Would I suggest it to a friend? . . . Only if I do not wish to keep them a friend.

I can’t really review this product beyond its inability to be used in conjunction with the Mac. Since current GPS models require interaction with a computer the Triton becomes useless if you use a Mac. Operation seemed ok in those areas that were checkable, however, I moved on to the Garmin Oregon and recommend it highly for Mac users wanting GPS!

Although I do not currently own the Magellan Triton, I found some information while researching the product and checking user reviews that may assist in integrating the product with the NG Topo maps.
Evidently, you must download the 4. 4. 2 version of Topo from the NG website and then download an updater so that the software works with the SD card.
Hope that helps.

I got the Magellan Triton 1500 several months ago. I chose this product because it was the only one I could find that would allow you to download detailed maps. I was expecting to have a lot of trouble trying to set it up because of all the reviews I had read about it. However, I didn’t seem to have any trouble. I installed the software on my computer and updated everything. Within no time I had selected a large area of the detailed map (about the size of the county I live) and exported it to my Triton. It worked great! I kept playing with it and was able to download satellite images (looks like Google Earth) to my computer and export it to my Triton. Now I can choose one of the satellite maps in my Triton and its like viewing yourself and where you are on Google Earth! It’s amazing to me. The only things I wish Magellan would improve on is the power source. I wish it could be powered like a cell phone, but it can’t, it uses plain batteries. I also wish the display was as bright as a cell phone display, its OK, but could be improved. Overall, It’s a great device!!

This is a quality product, except it comes with very sketchy instructions and is pretty complicated to operate. I wish Magellan epuipped the product with a more detailed operations manual. Not for a newbie.
